The Executive Residence, better known as the Governor’s Mansion, is located at 99 Cambridge Road. Governors of Wisconsin, and their families, have resided in the Maple Bluff mansion along the shores of Lake Mendota since 1949, which is when the State of Wisconsin acquired the building for $47,500. Frank Riley of Madison, Wisconsin designed the mansion in the southern classical revival style. Construction started in 1920 and was finally completed in 1928. The mansion is wood framed structure with painted stucco over sandstone and hollow clay tile façade. It is three stories high and has a basement level for a total of 20,777 gross square feet. The grounds of the Executive Residence measure 3.7 acres and features ten major garden areas.
