The Demographic Services Center's primary responsibility is to develop annual total population estimates for all Wisconsin towns, villages, and cities. It also makes annual estimates of the voting age population for all municipalities and total population estimates for Zip Code Areas.

In addition, the Demographic Services Center develops Wisconsin population projections by age and sex for counties; population projections of total population for all municipalities; and estimates of total housing units and households for all counties.

The Center is also an information and training resource liaison with the U.S. Bureau of the Census through the State Data Center program, and provides assistance for those seeking demographic information. The Demographic Services Center partners with the University of Wisconsin Applied Population Laboratory to deliver State Data Center services.
