The DOA Inter-D Mail Unit is part of the Bureau of Enterprise Fleet and offers several services to State government agencies located in Madison. The Inter-D Mail Unit sorts incoming USPS and State agency Inter-D mail and distributes to those agencies throughout the city. The DOA's Inter-D Mail unit and the UW-Madison programs interface for the transfer of mail and materials between the two entities. The University of Wisconsin-Madison is a separate organization and maintains their own Inter-D mail unit, servicing most UW-Madison facilities. The DOA's Inter-D system also connects with the following systems to provide a wide network of hard copy communications and material transfers:
- UW Hospital and Clinics via UW-Madison
- Some limited services to specific UW locations - (See Inter-D Routes)
- City of Madison/Dane County government
- South Central Library System
- State Office Building in Milwaukee at 819 N 6th St., via Dept. of Transportation Truck Courier
If you have questions about suspicious mail or packages contact the State Capital Police or UW-Madison Police.
SPECIAL NOTE:
The delivery time for Inter-D mail is greatly influenced by the accuracy of the address information provided. The number one impediment to timely delivery is inadequate address information.
Every item transferred through the system should contain: Individual's Name, Department Name (Do not use acronyms), Street Address, Room Number or Floor (If applicable).
Please note that all Inter-D transfers are sorted and delivered by location and not recipient's name.
Cross off all old addresses on Inter-D envelopes and boxes to avoid delivery to the wrong address. Refer to the state phone directory for more complete Inter-D mailing information.
The delivery of personal mail and packages is prohibited.
